Your Amazfit watch isn’t showing notifications. Or it’s showing everything at once and buzzing constantly. Or the text is so small you can’t read it without squinting.
All three problems have fixes. This guide covers all of them.
One thing upfront: the built-in Zepp app gives you basic notification control, but it’s limited. If you want to choose exactly which apps notify you, see full message text, customize vibration patterns, or fix WhatsApp showing up as a blank notification — you need the Notify for Amazfit & Zepp app. It’s free, and it solves most of the problems people have.
Section 1 — Notifications Not Showing Up At All
Work through these in order. Most people find the fix in the first three.

Check 1: Is Zepp App Allowed to Send Notifications?
This is the most common cause — the Zepp app lost its notification permission.
On Android:
- Go to Settings → Apps → Zepp
- Tap Notifications
- Make sure Allow notifications is turned ON
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings → Notifications → Zepp
- Toggle Allow Notifications ON
- Make sure Alerts and Banners are enabled
Check 2: Is Notification Access Enabled?
This is different from regular app notifications — your watch needs specific access to read your phone’s notification bar.
On Android:
- Go to Settings → Apps → Special app access → Notification access (on some phones this is under Privacy or Accessibility)
- Find Zepp in the list
- Toggle it ON
- If it’s already on, toggle it OFF, wait 10 seconds, toggle back ON
On iPhone: Notification access works differently on iOS — the Zepp app reads notifications through its own background process. If notifications stopped working after a phone update, reinstalling the Zepp app usually fixes it.
Check 3: Is the Watch in Do Not Disturb Mode?
Easy one to miss. Check on the watch itself:
- Swipe down from the watch face to open the control panel
- Look for a crescent moon icon (Do Not Disturb)
- If it’s highlighted or active — tap it to turn it off
You can also check through the Zepp app: Zepp app → Profile → Your watch → Notifications → Do Not Disturb
Check 4: Is Zepp Running in the Background?
This is the most frustrating one, especially on Android. Phone manufacturers aggressively kill background apps to save battery — and Zepp gets killed, which breaks notifications.
On Android:
First, check Zepp’s battery optimization setting:
- Settings → Apps → Zepp → Battery
- Select Unrestricted or Don’t optimize
Then make sure Zepp can run in the background:
- Open the Zepp app
- Go to Profile → Your watch name
- Tap Run in background
- Follow the instructions to allow it
For specific phone brands:
Samsung: Settings → Device Care → Battery → Background usage limits → Never sleeping apps → Add Zepp
Xiaomi/Redmi: Settings → Apps → Manage apps → Zepp → Battery saver → No restrictions
OnePlus: Settings → Battery → Battery optimization → Find Zepp → Don’t optimize
Huawei: Settings → Apps → Zepp → Battery → App launch → Manage manually → Enable all three toggles
Check 5: Try the Nuclear Option
If nothing above worked:
- On your watch: Settings → System → Factory reset (Note: this wipes your watch — your data is backed up in your Zepp account)
- Unpair the watch from Zepp
- Restart your phone
- Reinstall Zepp
- Re-pair your watch
- Set up notification permissions again from scratch
This solves about 90% of the stubborn cases.
Section 2 — Notifications Show Up But No Text
You see a notification banner on your wrist but it just shows the app icon — no message text. This has a specific cause.
The problem: Zepp’s default notification settings don’t show message content. You need to enable it.
Fix via Zepp app:
- Open Zepp app
- Go to Profile → Your watch → Notifications
- Find the app you want (WhatsApp, Messages, Gmail, etc.)
- Tap it
- Toggle Show notification content ON
If that doesn’t work — use Notify app instead:
The Notify app handles this better than Zepp. See Section 6 for setup. Once you’re in Notify:
- Go to Notifications → App list
- Find your app
- Enable Show notification text
iPhone users: iOS has a privacy setting that hides notification content on the lock screen. If your phone is locked when a notification comes in, Zepp might not be able to read the text.
Fix: iPhone Settings → Notifications → Show Previews → Always (instead of “When Unlocked”)
Section 3 — Notification Text Is Too Small {#section-3}
Your notifications show up but the text is tiny and hard to read. This is a Zepp OS display setting.
Fix on the watch:
- On your watch, go to Settings
- Find Display or Preferences
- Look for Font size or Text size
- Increase it
The exact menu path varies by model:
- T-Rex 3 / T-Rex 3 Pro: Settings → Display → Font size
- Balance 2: Settings → Preferences → Font size
- Active 2: Settings → Display → Text size
- Bip 6: Settings → Display → Font size
If you can’t find the setting on the watch:
Some models let you adjust this through the Zepp app: Zepp app → Profile → Your watch → Watch face & app settings → Font size
Section 4 — WhatsApp Notifications Showing Blank or Not Working
WhatsApp is the most common notification complaint for Amazfit users. Here’s why it happens and how to fix it.
Why it happens: WhatsApp encrypts its notifications for privacy. Android’s notification system shows the message content on your lock screen, but when it’s locked, the content is hidden. Zepp reads from the notification bar — if the content is hidden, it sends a blank notification to your watch.
Fix 1 — Change WhatsApp notification settings:
- On your phone, go to Settings → Notifications → WhatsApp
- Find Lock screen setting
- Change to Show all notification content
Fix 2 — Change phone lock screen notification setting:
- Settings → Notifications → Lock screen notifications
- Set to Show all content (not “Hide sensitive content”)
Fix 3 — Use the Notify app:
The Notify app handles WhatsApp better than Zepp because it processes notifications differently.
- Download Notify for Amazfit & Zepp (free on Android)
- Set it up (see Section 6)
- Go to Notifications → App list → WhatsApp
- Enable Show notification text
- Enable Show notification details
iPhone + WhatsApp: WhatsApp notifications on iPhone generally work more reliably with Zepp. If they’re not showing:
- iPhone Settings → WhatsApp → Notifications → Make sure everything is ON
- Zepp app → Profile → Your watch → Notifications → WhatsApp → Toggle ON
Section 5 — Too Many Notifications, Want to Filter
Your watch buzzes for every email, every news alert, every app update. You want to keep WhatsApp and calls but filter out the noise.
Via Zepp app (basic filtering):
- Zepp app → Profile → Your watch → Notifications
- You’ll see a list of apps with toggle switches
- Turn OFF the apps you don’t want on your wrist
- Keep only the ones that matter
Via Notify app (better filtering):
Notify gives you much more control:
- Mute specific notification channels within apps (like muting group chats but keeping direct messages)
- Set quiet hours (no notifications between certain times)
- Set custom vibration patterns per app
- Block specific senders
For muting WhatsApp group notifications specifically:
- In Notify app → Notifications → WhatsApp
- Enable Filter notifications
- Add keywords that appear in group chat names to the block list
- Direct messages come through, groups don’t
Section 6 — Setting Up the Notify App From Scratch
The Notify for Amazfit & Zepp app gives you notification control that the regular Zepp app doesn’t. Here’s how to set it up properly.
Step 1: Download the app
Android: Search “Notify for Amazfit & Zepp” on Google Play Store The app is free with optional paid upgrades for things like notification text previews.
Note: Notify app is Android only. iPhone users have to work within the Zepp app’s notification settings.
Step 2: Give it notification access
When you open the app, it will ask for notification access. This is required for it to work:
- Tap Grant permission when prompted
- You’ll be taken to Settings → Special app access → Notification access
- Find Notify for Amazfit in the list
- Toggle it ON
Step 3: Connect your watch
- Open Notify app
- Tap Connect device
- Make sure your Amazfit watch is nearby with Bluetooth on
- Select your watch from the list
- Follow the pairing prompts
If your watch doesn’t appear: make sure it’s not already connected to another app running in the background. Close the Zepp app entirely before pairing with Notify.
Step 4: Set up notifications
- Tap Notifications in the bottom menu
- Tap App list
- You’ll see every app on your phone
- Toggle ON the apps you want to receive notifications from
- For each app, tap it to see more options:
- Enable Show notification text to see message content
- Set Vibration pattern if you want different alerts per app
- Enable Icon to show the app icon
Step 5: Fix battery optimization for Notify app
Same issue as Zepp — Android will try to kill Notify in the background.
- Settings → Apps → Notify for Amazfit → Battery
- Select Unrestricted
Also check: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Battery optimization → Notify for Amazfit → Don’t optimize
Step 6: Test it
Send yourself a WhatsApp message or have someone text you. The notification should appear on your watch within a few seconds.
If it doesn’t appear immediately: unlock your phone, open Notify app, and check the Diagnostics or Help section — it will tell you if notifications are being received from your phone correctly.
Notify App vs Zepp App — Which Should You Use?
Short answer: use both together. They do different things.
| Feature | Zepp App | Notify App |
|---|---|---|
| Basic notification toggle | Yes | Yes |
| Show message text | Limited | Better |
| Filter specific app channels | No | Yes |
| Custom vibration per app | No | Yes |
| Quiet hours | Basic | Advanced |
| WhatsApp group muting | No | Yes |
| iPhone support | Yes | Android only |
| Works without internet | Yes | Yes |
Keep Zepp installed (your watch needs it). Add Notify on top for better notification control.
Still Not Working? Try These
Bluetooth connection issues: Notifications only come through when your watch and phone are connected via Bluetooth. If Bluetooth drops frequently:
- Keep your phone and watch within 10 meters
- Restart both devices
- Re-pair the watch if disconnects happen constantly
After a phone software update: Phone OS updates sometimes reset notification permissions. After any major Android or iOS update, go back and check:
- Zepp notification permission
- Zepp notification access
- Battery optimization settings
They often get reset without warning.
After a watch firmware update: Same thing can happen after a Zepp OS update on the watch. If notifications stop after an update:
- Disable and re-enable notification access for Zepp
- Restart your phone
- Open Zepp and check notification settings manually
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Amazfit show notifications on some apps but not others?
Each app needs to be individually enabled in Zepp (or Notify). Go to Zepp app → Profile → Your watch → Notifications and check each app is toggled on. Some apps — especially banking apps — encrypt their notifications and can’t be read by any third-party app for security reasons.
Does the Notify app work with iPhone?
No. Notify for Amazfit & Zepp is Android only. iPhone users need to use the built-in Zepp notification settings. Most notification issues on iPhone are caused by notification access being turned off in iOS settings.
Why do my Amazfit notifications stop working after a few hours?
Your phone’s battery optimization is killing the Zepp app (or Notify app) in the background. Set both to Unrestricted battery usage and add them to your phone’s “never sleep” list. This is the most common cause of notifications that work initially then stop.
Can I see the full text of WhatsApp messages on my Amazfit?
Yes, but you need to enable it. In Zepp: Notifications → WhatsApp → Show notification content. Or in Notify app: Notifications → WhatsApp → Show notification text. You also need your phone’s lock screen to show notification content — if it’s set to hide sensitive content, the watch won’t get the text either.
My Amazfit shows notifications but they disappear too quickly. How do I keep them on screen longer?
In Zepp app: Profile → Your watch → Notifications → Notification display time. Increase it to 5-10 seconds. On the watch directly: Settings → Notifications → Display duration.
Will using Notify app drain my phone battery?
A little, yes — it runs in the background to forward notifications. In practice, most users don’t notice a meaningful difference. If battery is a concern, you can use Zepp’s built-in notifications instead and only install Notify for features Zepp doesn’t have.
