Amazfit just pushed out a fresh software update—version 3.16.0.3—for the Balance 2, and I finally got my hands on it. After trying it out, I can confidently say: this one actually makes a difference.

The update brings a brand-new Ultramarathon workout mode, improves the often-frustrating tap-to-wake feature, and squashes a few annoying bugs.

No, we still don’t have BioCharge (yet), but it’s clear that Amazfit is actively fine-tuning the experience.

So, here’s a quick breakdown of what I noticed after installing the update.

Ultramarathon Mode Is Here (Finally!)

If you’re into endurance workouts—like long-distance runs, hikes, or bike rides—this one’s for you. Amazfit added a new Ultramarathon mode designed to track performance over extended sessions.

Now, I haven’t run an ultramarathon (and I doubt I will 😅), but I do go on weekend hikes and long cycling sessions.

This new mode is perfect for that. It tracks my stats without draining the battery as much as before, and that’s a big win if you’re out for hours.

Tap-to-Wake Is Way More Reliable

Let’s be honest—tap-to-wake on smartwatches doesn’t always work the way it should. I used to tap, then tap again, then tap harder… you get the idea.

With this update, tap-to-wake actually works. One tap, and the screen lights up immediately. It might sound like a small thing, but I’ve already noticed how much more natural it feels.

No more frustration when I just want to check the time or swipe to a widget.

Small Fixes, Big Relief

A few more tweaks in this update made things feel smoother overall:

  • Digital Crown scrolling is now more fluid—especially while scrolling through menus mid-workout.
  • The Eject feature, which didn’t always work before, finally does what it’s supposed to.
  • A bug that caused silent alerts is gone—my watch now vibrates and makes sounds properly.
  • The Control Center (where I toggle things like brightness or airplane mode) runs noticeably faster and with less lag.

These little things add up. It’s not flashy, but day-to-day use feels better.

Still No BioCharge (But It’s on the Way)

Okay, here’s the one thing I was really hoping for: BioCharge. It’s supposed to be this smart feature that tracks your energy levels and gives you insights—like a body battery meter.

Unfortunately, it didn’t make the cut in this update. But Amazfit has already said it’s still in development. I’ll be keeping an eye out for it in the next release. Fingers crossed it arrives soon!

How I Got Amazfit Balance 2 Update 3.16.0.3

If you haven’t updated yet, it’s pretty simple:

  1. Open the Zepp app on your phone.
  2. Make sure it’s updated to version 9.9.5 or higher.
  3. Connect your Balance 2, and the update should pop up on its own.
  4. Follow the steps to install it—it only took a few minutes for me.

This update started rolling out on July 17 in the U.S., Italy, and China. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry—it’s being pushed out gradually to more regions.

My Final Take

This update doesn’t bring anything mind-blowing, but it absolutely improves the Balance 2 experience.

The new Ultramarathon mode is a great addition for endurance athletes or anyone who spends long hours outdoors.

The tap-to-wake fix made an instant difference for me, and the smaller bug fixes help everything feel smoother and more polished.

Yeah, I’m still waiting on BioCharge, but I’m glad Amazfit is focusing on stability and user experience instead of rushing half-baked features.

If you’ve already updated, what do you think?
And if you haven’t yet—go ahead and try it. This one’s worth installing.
