Zepp Health has confirmed that the rugged smartwatch will soon receive the Zepp OS 5 update—and yes, this makes it the first older model (pre-2025) to run the latest OS.

This update was recently teased on Amazfit Germany’s Instagram and reported by NotebookCheck, signaling a major step forward for T-Rex 3 users.

Zepp OS 5 Steps Beyond the 2025 Lineup

Until now, Zepp OS 5 has been reserved for newer devices, such as the Balance 2, the Active 2 series, and the Bip 6. Bringing it to the T-Rex 3, which launched in early 2024, is a big deal.

It’s not just a minor firmware tweak—this is a substantial upgrade that could breathe new life into one of Amazfit’s most rugged smartwatches.

The timing also makes sense. T-Rex 3’s last update (3.9.4.4) rolled out in mid-July, introducing a HYROX Training mode and improved zoom controls.

Zepp OS 5, however, promises far more, including smoother performance and new usability features.

What You Can Expect

While Zepp Health hasn’t shared the full feature list yet, some highlights likely coming to the T-Rex 3 include:

  • Jet Lag Manager – Perfect for travelers looking to adjust their sleep cycles.
  • Adjustable Font Sizes – Makes reading notifications and menus much easier.
  • Zepp Flow 2.0 – The improved voice assistant for faster, smarter responses.
  • System-Wide Improvements – Behind-the-scenes performance upgrades that make everything smoother.

Not every feature may cut, though. For example, the Golf app, which was previously part of Zepp OS 5 on the Balance 2, has been removed in certain regions.

Another feature to watch is BioCharge, currently exclusive to the Helio Strap, which could eventually replace the older Recovery Score metric on all watches running the latest OS.

Why This Matters

For T-Rex 3 owners, this isn’t just another update—it’s a chance to make an already rugged smartwatch feel fresh and modern.

Zepp OS 5 brings smarter tools, better usability, and a smoother interface that could extend the watch’s appeal well into 2025.
