Amazfit has started rolling out a fresh firmware update for its Balance 2 smartwatch.

The new version, 3.16.6.1, isn’t a feature-packed release but focuses on improving the overall experience — especially for users who also train with the Helio Strap fitness tracker.

The update arrives about a month after version 3.15, which introduced the Ultramarathon workout mode.

Here’s my honest, hands-on take after a few hours of playing with it.

Key Highlights of Amazfit Balance 2 Update 3.16.6.1

Amazfit Balance 2 Firmware Update 3.16.6.1
  • New heart rate source icon during workouts
  • Improved Helio Strap support
  • Smoother post-workout summaries
  • No BioCharge on the watch yet
  • Rollout starting in the U.S., Italy, and Canada first

First Impressions: Helio Strap Works Better

The first thing I noticed after updating was how much smoother my Helio Strap works with the watch.

Before, I always had to guess if the strap was connected or not. Now, the Balance 2 shows me the strap’s status on-screen — no more second-guessing.

Even cooler, there’s a new heart rate source icon during workouts. It tells me whether my HR is coming from the watch or the strap. Simple? Yes. Helpful? Absolutely.

It’s the kind of tiny detail that makes training feel more professional-level.

Post-Workout Feels More Natural

After my run today, I noticed the workout summary screen is smoother. The animations and scrolling feel more fluid — less laggy.

I didn’t realize how clunky it was before until I experienced this version.

It’s not groundbreaking, but when you’re sweaty and just want to glance at your stats, every second counts.

Still No BioCharge (Sigh)

I’ll be honest, I was hoping this update would finally bring BioCharge to the Balance 2.

That’s Amazfit’s shiny new energy-monitoring feature, and right now it’s stuck on the Helio Strap. Sadly, it’s still not here.

According to Zepp Health, they’re “working on it,” so fingers crossed for the next update.

Updating Was Easy

If you’re wondering how to get it: I’m in the U.S., and the update popped up right away.

All I did was open the Zepp Health app, make sure I was on version 9.11.0, and let it sync.

Took maybe 5 minutes tops. If you’re outside the U.S., you might have to wait a bit longer, but it’s coming.

My Takeaway

So, what do I think? Honestly, 3.16.6.1 isn’t a game-changer, but it does make the Balance 2 feel more polished.

The Helio Strap improvements are the highlight, and the smoother post-workout flow is a nice touch.

The missing BioCharge feature stings a little, but hey, that just gives me something to look forward to in the next update.

Should You Update?

My answer: Yes — definitely.

Even though this update doesn’t add brand-new features, it makes the watch more reliable and polished.

If you’re using the Helio Strap, it’s a no-brainer. If you’re not, you’ll still benefit from the smoother post-workout flow. It’s quick to install, and honestly, there’s no reason to skip it.
